Most of us are confused of the definition between remodelling and renovation. Both remodelling and renovation applies to improvement work done to homes, beautifying it if not adding better features to your home.
Here’s how we define renovation: restore (something old, especially a building) to a good state of repair. What this means is that old, rundown homes or buildings that are dilapidated requires renovation to resurrect that structure from a state of disrepair.
Renovation works can range from subtle work such as additional features, improvement of current state, to something more drastic, such as a full remodelling (or interior designing project). Renovation often refers to “restoring” or “repairing” an existing structure, replacing the old with the new.
Remodelling, on the other hand, is defined as: changing the structure or form of something (especially a building or structure).
Remodelling is usually more drastic, such as radically changing the appearance of your kitchen, bathroom or living room. Most of the time, remodelling includes several improvements in conjunction, such as painting, adding new features and rearranging of home features.
In conclusion, remodelling generally work to change or transform the appearance, structure of the home, whereas renovation is generally about repairing it or “updating” of the home.
