Starting out from a humble shop house unit along Joo Chiat Road selling tiles, Futar has come a long way since it was founded in 1971 by our founder Mr Choo Hwee Ming. We started by only specializing in Japanese tiles 40 years ago, and now we’ve grown to become one of Singapore.s leading suppliers in construction finishing material.
We started expanding our resources on a global scale and by the 1980s, the company saw itself also being well-developed with ceramic and homogenous tiles from Spain, Italy, Turkey and China. Futar further ventured into supplying natural stones in the 1990s, starting with marble and granite with resources from the Middle East, Western Europe, South and East Asia.
As the company expanded, we moved into our new office premises in the year of 2006, where we also started our own production plant when we had ample factory space in our newly built Changi North Way warehouse. With our full production facility warehouse, we were able to achieve economies of scale and offer complete services, such as unique stone fabrication works and customized cut-to-size stones – all under one roof.
In that same year of 2006, Futar started a Sanitary Ware department when we were awarded the exclusive distributorship in Singapore for European sanitary brand VitrA. The department focuses mainly on residential development projects and aids projects from our existing clientele with finishing touches for the wet works.
The company’s development over the decades to keep up with the changing market and its diversification in the building/construction industry gave us good and diverse working relationships with various companies within the same industry. It also equipped us with the expertise and know-how in handling different projects from working on various prominent jobs from governmental boards, private, commercial and residential sectors and working with big developers such as Far East Development, Centrepoint Properties, City Developments Ltd, UOB Group, UOL and many others.
